As expected, the favorite Argentina prevailed in Group 1. When favorites Argentina and France met in the second game of the group, there were 25,000 visitors in the stadium. The 1-0 winning goal for Argentina was achieved by center runner Monti with a direct free kick. Argentina's Chierro suffered a nervous shock after the game against France and could not be used in the tournament afterwards. Referee John Langenus from Belgium also whistled the match six minutes too early. After violent protests, he let the lost time replay. Some players were already in the shower, but had to come up again. Argentina shot themselves against Mexico in a 6-3 win before the decisive match against Chile. The eventual top scorer of the tournament, Guillermo Stábile, had already scored three times against Mexico. Against Chile he got two goals in the 3-1 success that meant group victory. Argentina qualified for the semi-finals.

Argentina and the USA met in the first semi-final game. The high favorite still had a hard time in the first half. Outrunner Monti had put Argentina 1-0 (20th) in the lead, but it was only after the change that the gauchos really messed up the Americans. US goalkeeper Douglas scored five hits (Scopelli 56th, Stábile 69th and 87th, and Peucelle 80th and 85th). Only a minute before the final whistle, the Americans scored a consolation goal from Jim Brown.

UruguayUruguay Uruguay - ArgentinaArgentina Argentina 4: 2 (1: 2)

The favorites Uruguay and Argentina were - as expected - in the final. The guests got off to a better start, played well, but Uruguay took the lead after a counterattack by Scarone, whose submission Dorado netted to make it 1-0. Argentina persisted and saved a 2-1 lead in half-time after goals from Peucelle (20th) and Stábile (37th). In the second round, the host's midfield game, presented by Andrade, Gestido and Scarone, won the upper hand. The equalization by Cea (57th) fell after just under an hour. Uruguay pressed on and forced the acclaimed winning goal through Iriarte (68th) and Castro (90th).
