Football World Cup 1930 / Yugoslavia

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This article covers the Yugoslav national team at the 1930 World Cup .

qualification

There was still no qualification at the first World Cup , as only a small number of national teams - in times of the global economic crisis and before the introduction of regular transatlantic air traffic - were prepared to undertake the expensive and long journey to South America . Yugoslavia was one of only four European teams that made their way to Uruguay .

Contingent

In the Yugoslav federation, there were already some time before the tournament disputes between Serbian and Croatian officials , as the headquarters of the Association of Zagreb to Belgrade was moved. For this reason the regional association of Zagreb, which was against participating in the World Cup anyway, refused to interrupt or postpone the championship because of the World Cup. The associations of Split , Sarajevo and Subotica joined this refusal shortly afterwards . This led Boško Simonović to nominate 13 players from leading Belgrade clubs. In addition, a player from Vojvodina Novi Sad was nominated and three legionnaires who were active in France .
