Edness K. Wilkins State Park is a state park east of Casper on the North Platte River in Natrona County , Wyoming . It is named after Edness Kimball Wilkins, a local politician who died in 1980. The park covers 362 acres .
history
In 1981, the property was purchased for around $ 380,000. In the following year, work began on the construction of roads and parking lots as well as on the landscaping.
Tourist use
In addition to a section of the North Platte River, Edness K. Wilkins State Park includes a forest of bastard black poplar and open terrain. Three ponds with sandy beaches also offer recreational opportunities and the North Platte River can be used for canoeing, rafting and fishing. More than 200 species of birds have been counted in the park, including yellow-billed cuckoos , stone and bald eagles , cormorants , corner- tailed corsairs and 16 species of ducks . There are no overnight accommodations in the park.
