Eduard Ackermann (* 1. November 1928 in Geldern , † 10. February 2015 in Bonn ) was a German politician of the CDU . From 1982 to 1994 he was head of department 5 of the Federal Chancellery under Helmut Kohl (at that time the department for social and political analysis, communication and public relations) and was one of Kohl's closest confidants.

Live and act

Eduard Ackermann studied German, history and philosophy and was a member of the WKSt.V. Unitas Stolzenfels in Bonn. In 1956 he graduated as Dr. phil. After working for a political magazine published by the then chairman of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group, Heinrich Krone , since 1953, Krone appointed him deputy head of the press office of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group in Bonn in 1957 . In 1958 Eduard Ackermann became spokesman for the CDU / CSU parliamentary group ; he kept this task under the parliamentary group chairmen Rainer Barzel , Karl Carstens and Helmut Kohl . With the election of Helmut Kohl as Federal Chancellor on October 1, 1982, Eduard Ackermann took over the position of Ministerial Director of Department 5 “Communication, Documentation and Political Planning” in the Federal Chancellery . Here he maintained contacts with domestic and foreign journalists, organized and conveyed information and, according to Helmut Herles , was "the often decisive control point in the information and influence system Kohl". In his function, he acted as Kohl's personal press spokesman until his retirement. The long-time chairman of the Federal Press Conference , Rudolf Strauch , put it: "What is for Goethe Eckermann , for Kohl the Ackermann is."

Ackermann suffered from a visual impairment early on, which worsened with age and made his work more difficult.

After his retirement in 1994, Ackermann published his memoirs under the title Mit feinem Gehör . In 1996 he published Politicians. About right and wrong action .

Ackermann was married and had a son.
