Eduard Alexander Magnus Theophil Baron von der Brüggen (born January 4, 1822 in Arishof , Courland , † January 25, 1896 in Mitau ) was baron and lord of Arishof since 1862 . He was a state politician in Courland, held several high offices and campaigned for art and literature in the Courland Governorate .

Career

Alexander vdB attended the Gouvernements-Gymnasium in Mitau from 1836 to 1840 . He then studied at the Imperatorskij Derptskij Universitet until 1842 and in Berlin from 1846 to 1852 . After passing the state examination , he became an assessor at the Oberhauptmann -gericht in Grobin. He was elected captain in Grobin for the years 1856-1859, and until 1862 he was appointed captain in Mitau. For the years 1875 to 1878 he was elected land marshal in Courland, then he was Oberburggraf until 1879 , then ducal chancellor until 1887 and finally until 1889 court master of the Courland High Court. Between 1868 and 1890 he was a secular assessor in the Courland Consistory , of which he was also temporarily president, at the same time he was land messenger marshal for several terms and a total of three times director of the brotherly conference. In 1881 he was appointed honorary curator of the grammar school in Mitau and since 1891 he was director of the Mitauschen district committee of the Evangelical Lutheran relief fund. He was also the author of several articles in the Baltic Monthly . As a promoter of culture and literature, he was President from 1869 to 1876 and 1876 to 1893 and in 1891 honorary member of the Courland Society for Literature and Art , and from 1882 to 1892 director of the Courland Provincial Museum.

Origin and family

Alexander Eduard vd Brüggen came from the German-Baltic noble family von der Brüggen . His father was the Russian lieutenant Julius Magnus von der Brüggen (1790-1859), who was married to Charlotte von Fircks from the Heyden family (1799-1832), Eduard remained single.
