Eduard Gustav Eberty

Eduard Gustav Eberty (born June 12, 1840 in Görlitz , † July 23, 1894 in Tabarz ) was a lawyer and member of the German Reichstag .

Life

Eberty attended high school in Wittenberg and studied law , philosophy and history in Heidelberg and Berlin . He then became an assessor and later an assistant judge at the Berlin Supreme Court . In 1870 he joined the army and took part in the war against France .

In 1872 he was elected to the Berlin city council as a paid city councilor. From 1886 to 1893 he was a member of the Prussian House of Representatives , and in 1887 he became the town councilor . From 1881 to 1884 and from 1890 to his death he was a member of the German Reichstag, first as a member of the Progress Party , then the left-wing liberal German Freethinking Party .

In 1893 the city of Berlin awarded him the honorary title of city ​​elder , primarily in recognition of his efforts to build the cattle yard and the market halls. His grave is in the Old Twelve Apostles Cemetery in Schöneberger Kolonnenstrasse. In 1901, Ebertystraße in Berlin-Friedrichshain was named after him.
