Eduard Krüger (architect)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Eduard Krüger (born July 25, 1901 in Kleinwildbad; † June 27, 1967 in Schwäbisch Hall ) was a German architect, building historian and town planner.

Live and act

Eduard Krüger was born in the Black Forest in 1901. He had an older brother who was killed in the First World War. Since his father died before he was born , the mother , who came from Schwäbisch Hall , raised the children on her own and worked a. a. as a seamstress . Krüger studied architecture in Stuttgart from 1920 to 1926 . His teachers included Paul Bonatz , Heinz Wetzel and Paul Schmitthenner . From 1925/26 to Bonatz's architecture office, he passed his diploma examination in 1926. In the following year he had his own architecture office in Stuttgart and received his doctorate in 1928 on the building history of the collegiate church in Herrenberg . In 1937 he married Lilo Rath, who came from Wildbad . The marriage resulted in son Rainer, who later became a high school teacher. Between 1938 and 1947 Krüger acted at the TH Stuttgart as deputy of Paul Bonatz, of whose master class he was one. Like him, he represented a more conservative building attitude. Many of his buildings were characterized by homeland security architecture . With the construction of the Kreissparkasse in Wangen in 1937, for example, Krüger oriented himself on local models such as the Mohren-Post inn from 1540, whose stepped gable he repeated. As a building historian, he dealt intensively with the structural conditions in the area, as his 1953 construction of the Kreissparkasse in Rottenburg am Neckar shows. The building, which has not been classified as a historical monument and fits seamlessly into the image of the historic market square, is now threatened with demolition.

In 1946 Krüger moved to Schwäbisch Hall because his apartment and office in Stuttgart had been destroyed. From 1948 to 1951 he worked as a city planner in Schwäbisch Hall. In the 1960s he directed the renovation of the former Benedictine monastery Großcomburg . In addition to his work as an architect, he carried out numerous archaeological excavations.

Eduard Krüger died on July 27, 1967, probably as a result of a stroke at the age of 65. In the Schwäbisch Hall district of Hagenbach, a panorama path today commemorates the architect.
