Eduard Strauss (lawyer)

Eduard Strauss (complete: Eduard Josef Strauss , born April 21, 1955 in Vienna ) is an Austrian lawyer ( retired judge ). He is the son of Eduard Strauss II and the great-great-grandson of Johann Strauss (father) . Johann Strauss (son) was his great-great-uncle.

Life

After graduating from the Schottengymnasium of the Benedictines in Vienna in 1973 and studying law at the University of Vienna , Strauss received his doctorate in 1979. From 1997 onwards he worked as a civil judge at the Vienna Higher Regional Court , since January 1, 2006, he has been President of the Senate at the Vienna Higher Regional Court and has been retired since May 1, 2020.

Strauss has been a member of the Austrian Restitution Commission since 1999 . In April 2018 he was appointed trial judge in BAT - Investigative Committee selected.

Eduard Strauss was in 1975 " Honorary Patron " ( Honorary Patron ) of the "Johann Strauss Society of Great Britain"; The honorary patronage was transferred from him to his son Thomas in 2015 at his request. However, he is still an honorary member, just as he is an honorary member of the Swedish, German and Czech Johann Strauss societies. From 1987 to 1991 he was President of the Johann Strauss Society in Vienna, which, however, has no place of honor for him.

He is President of the Vienna Choir Association Schola Cantorum .

Since 1995 Strauss has been chairman of the association "Vienna Institute for Strauss Research (WISF)", whose central goal is to publish the first scientifically based catalogs of the works of Johann Strauss II (as "Strauss Elementary Directory" (SEV)) and the other composing members of this family (called the "Strauss Alliance Directory"). The WISF has been organizing an annual series of events since 2004 with a scientific symposium with international participation - "Tanz-Signals" (named after a waltz by Johann Strauss (father)) - and works closely with the Vienna Library in the City Hall and with other scientific and cultural organizations together. Strauss is also a member of the Presidium of the Austrian Lawyers Association and the Ball Committee of the Vienna Jurists Ball .

Eduard Strauss is married and has a son named Thomas, a second (Michael) died at the age of 23.
