Eduard Wedekind

Heinrich Friedrich Georg Eduard Wedekind , (born August 16, 1805 in Osnabrück , † November 14, 1885 in Arnstadt ) was a German politician. He belongs to the Wedekind family , whose family foundation was founded in 1845 at his instigation.

Life

Eduard Wedekind studied in Göttingen Jura and was active in the then existing fraternity Osnabrugia , later in the then existing Corps Guestphalia opened. Since his student days he was on friendly terms with Heinrich Heine , who was active in the same student association. He belonged to various parliamentary representations. In 1840 and 1841 he was first a member of the Hanoverian estates , in 1848 he was a participant in the so-called pre - parliament and then from May 18, 1848 to May 30, 1849 for the 5th Hanover constituency in Sulingen, member of the German National Assembly in the Paulskirche in Frankfurt . There he belonged first to the right-wing liberal casino , then to the Landsberg faction and finally to the Württemberger Hof faction and thus to the left center. Because he often used the phrase "I doubt that ..." in his parliamentary speeches, he was nicknamed "Reich doubters". In the Paulskirche he campaigned for the so-called Greater German solution with Austria as part of Germany. After the failure of the revolution in 1848/49 , Eduard Wedekind retired from politics and worked as a judge. In 1880 he was appointed to the judiciary .
