Eduard Zeck

Eduard Zeck (born September 4, 1862 in Düsseldorf , † August 5, 1940 ) was a German politician.

On January 24, 1890, Zeck became mayor of the rural mayor's office in Elten (which has been part of Emmerich am Rhein since 1975 ) and held this office for 41 years. During his tenure in office he campaigned for the construction of the power station , on May 20, 1899, electric light shone for the first time in Elten. The building of the school was also promoted by him, the construction of the Elten teachers' seminar on Seminarstrasse falls within his term of office. The elementary school was built in Oberhüthum in 1903 and the forest school in Borghees in 1909. At Zeck's suggestion, a traffic and beautification association was founded and the observation tower in Hochelten was built. The volunteer fire brigades Elten and Hüthum-Borghees were newly founded or organized. From 1899 Zeck was head of the Elten volunteer fire department.

In 1913, Zeck was awarded the " Ridder van Oranje Nassau " medal for his efforts to establish a German vice-consulate in Zevenaar . In 1930 he was made an honorary citizen of the municipality of Elten, and in 2002 the “Mayor-Zeck-Straße” in the Elten district was named after him.
