Eduard von Waldkirch

Eduard Otto von Waldkirch (born July 1, 1890 in Bern ; † February 5, 1972 ibid) was a Swiss lawyer , university professor and politician ( Republican Movement ).

Life

Von Waldkirch studied law in Bern , Berlin and Geneva , in 1914 he became Bernese advocate , in 1915 he received his doctorate in Bern. He became deputy adjunct of the judicial department of the Federal Department of Justice and Police . From 1918 he was a private lecturer and from 1927 to 1960 associate professor at the University of Bern . Waldkirch mainly taught international law , canon law and commercial legal protection . The authorities repeatedly called in him as a legal expert on international and constitutional issues. In 1933 he presided over the Federal Air Defense Commission , and from 1936 to 1945 he headed the Department for Passive Air Defense in the Federal Military Department .

From 1971 to 1972 Waldkirch sat for James Schwarzenbach's Republican Movement in the National Council . On November 29, 1971, when he was 81 years old , he opened the first session of the newly elected National Council. He was able to greet the women who were able to sit in the Swiss Parliament for the first time at this point. Under his leadership as senior president, William Vontobel was the only time in history that a representative of the National Ring of Independents was elected President of the National Council.

Eduard von Waldkirch was a grandson of Wilhelm Teuscher , who was also a member of the National Council.
