Eduardo Fernández de la Garza (born July 30, 1962 in Ciudad Juárez , Chihuahua ) is a retired Mexican football player in the position of goalkeeper .

Life

Fernández de la Garza began his career in the Mexican Primera División 1983/84 at CF Oaxtepec . When this was relegated after two years of membership in the first division in the summer of 1984, he moved to the promoted Ángeles de Puebla , with whom he was under contract until the summer of 1987. He then moved to the capital club Cruz Azul , with whom he reached the finals against city rivals America in the 1988/89 season.

After leaving Cruz Azul in the summer of 1990, Fernández completed one-year guest appearances at Atlante and Monarcas Morelia , for which he worked twice. In 1993 Fernández moved to Club Deportivo Guadalajara , where he had his longest club membership with a duration of four years. Before he left the Chivasi in the summer of 1997, he won with them in Torneo Verano 1997 , the second round tournament of the 1996/97 season, his only championship title. However, he came in the championship only to a total of four appearances between the fourth and eighth day of play, because Martín Zúñiga had established himself as the new goalkeeper.

The fact that he had already passed his zenith can also be inferred from the fact that he also worked with his following employers in the first division, Tiburones Rojos Veracruz (with whom he suffered the second relegation of his career at the end of the 1997/98 season) and Toros Neza (the final opponent when winning the title in Guadalajara in the summer of 1997), only played a few appearances and completed a half-season in the second half of 1998 with the second division side Chivas Tijuana in the Primera División 'A' .

In 1992 Fernández played two games for the Mexican national team over the full distance of 90 minutes as part of the World Cup qualification : the first was lost to Costa Rica (0: 2) on November 29, the second 11: 0 the following week won against San Vicente.
