Eduardo Risso (born November 23, 1959 in Leones ) is an Argentine comic artist who received international attention primarily with the award-winning series 100 Bullets , but also with his Batman work .

Life

First works

Eduardo Risso began his career at the age of 22 as an illustrator for the Argentine daily newspaper “ La Nación ” and various satirical and erotic magazines. His first short works, El Angel and Julio Cesar, date from this period . His first comic story Parque Chas was written in 1987 with the author Ricardo Barreiro . It was published in the Argentine comic anthology "Fierro" and later reprinted in several European magazines ("Totem" in Spain, "Comic Art" in Italy). In France, the comic was published in 1992 by Glénat and a year later was also published in Germany with the title Parque Chas Verloren in Buenos Aires by Editions Glénat.

Work in Europe

From the end of the 1980s he created Borderline and Los Misterios de la Luna Roja with Ricardo Barreiro Cain and with the Argentinian Carlos Trillo . Borderline is a story in the best crime noir tradition, comparable to Sin City . He began work on Fulù , which first appeared in the magazine Pueritas in Argentina and was published in French in 1989 in five volumes by Glénat. The story of the beautiful Fulù, who was stolen from the black continent and is now trying to regain her freedom as a slave, is set in the heyday of the slave trade and the colonial powers. Fulù is an international success and is translated into many languages in Europe.

Work in the USA

1997 saw his first work for American publishers. For Dark Horse Comics he delivers the film adaptation of the fourth Alien film, the two- parter : Aliens: Resurection ( Alien - The Rebirth ) and 1998 Alien: Wraith . 1998 saw the first collaboration with Brian Azzarello : Jonny Double , a four-part mini-series at DC Comics . It is the beginning of a fruitful and successful collaboration that has continued to this day. In 1999 he and Azzarello started working on 100 bullets for the DC imprint Vertigo . This extraordinary cross-country skier has now made over 60 editions.

In 2001 his only work for Marvel was created , an edition of Tangled Web: The Thousand # 4 - authored by Greg Rucka .

Risso goes exclusively to DC and here he creates countless works, including for Flinch , Heart Throbs , Weird Western Tales , Transmetropolitan , Winter's Edge , Flash , JSA: All Stars and various pin-ups for Adventures of Superman , Green Lantern: Secret Files and Wonder Woman .

In October 2000 he started working on Batman - together with Azzarello he created an eight pager in black and white for Batman: Gotham Knights # 8 (published in German by Panini Comics in "Batman: Black and White" # 1) .

After the great success of the Batman run Hush (German at Panini, DC / Germany) by Jeph Loeb / Jim Lee , DC entrusts the monthly series Batman in December 2003 with the Batman # 620 issue for six issues to the duo Azzarello / Risso. A daring endeavor, given that Azzarello isn't exactly known for his fondness for superheroes in costume. The result is Broken City , a story that characterizes Batman very differently and that Risso stages in a gloomy way. The German publication by Panini in Batman special volume # 1 is out of print immediately.
