Edward Marian Frankowski (born August 15, 1937 in Kępa Rzeczycka near Stalowa Wola , Subcarpathian Voivodeship , Poland ) is auxiliary bishop emeritus in Sandomierz .

Life

Edward Frankowski attended the seminar in Przemysl , studied pastoral theology and was on 18 June 1961 by Franciszek Barda , the bishop of Przemysl , the priests ordained; then he was incardinated in the clergy of the Diocese of Sandomierz-Radom . In his work in the parish pastoral work he actively supported the Solidarność movement. Particularly noteworthy is his social activity in defending the rights of working people, especially during the strike in 1988 at the Wola steelworks. In his priestly service he was monitored by the communist authorities.

Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Tigamibena and auxiliary bishop in Przemyśl on February 16, 1989 . The Bishop of Przemyśl, Ignacy Tokarczuk , donated him episcopal ordination on March 5 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the auxiliary bishops Bolesław Łukasz Taborski and Stefan Moskwa .

On March 25, 1992 he was appointed auxiliary bishop in Sandomierz.

In 2005 he received his doctorate in social sciences.

After Edward Frankowski wrote to Pope Benedict XVI on July 15, 2012 . had offered to resign for reasons of age, the latter accepted the resignation according to cann. 411 and 401 § 1 CIC with effect from October 6, 2012 of the same year.

Frankowski was a member of the Commission of Charitable Works at the Polish Bishops' Conference .

Episcopal coat of arms

The coat of arms shows a golden cross with a red priest stole on a blue background. The cross as the victory sign of Christ, the Redeemer of the world, the stole in the middle part forming a V- Victory , as the victory of the church over communism , red in memory of the martyrs ' victims. Above the shield is the green galero with six tassels hanging down each. His motto Christ vincit (“Christ wins”) confirms the figurative statement of the bishop's coat of arms.
