Egidio Reale

Egidio Reale (born April 24, 1888 in Lecce , † November 1, 1958 in Locarno ) was an Italian anti-fascist and diplomat .

Life

Egidio Reale was a brother of Oronzo Reale . He was used as a soldier in the First World War. He studied law and practiced in Rome the profession of lawyer from. He took an active part in the fight against fascism . He was a member of the leadership of the Partito Repubblicano Italiano . In 1926 he migrated to Switzerland to avoid arrest . With Carlo Rosselli , Guglielmo Ferrero and Gaetano Salvemini he formed the anti-fascist group Giustizia e Libertà .

Reale taught at the Geneva University Institute for International Studies and at grammar schools in Ticino . He has published numerous studies on legal, historical and political subjects in magazines in various countries. In his work he always advocates democratic and liberal principles against fascism and Nazism. From 2 February 1944, he was charge d'affaires of the Royal Italian embassy in Bern . From 1947 to 1955 he was ambassador in Bern. Immigration was one of his areas of responsibility . After 1955 he chaired the Italian Commission at UNESCO .

Egidio Reale's estate (correspondence) is in the Italian National Archives in Rome (Archivio Centrale dello Stato).
