overview

history

Eternit has been promoting architecture students and young architects with the Egon Eiermann Prize since 1991. Every two years, the company, together with Karl Krämer Verlag and a top-class jury , looks for designs that are trend-setting for architecture and society. The Egon Eiermann Prize gives students and graduates the opportunity to present their ideas to a broader public.

When Eternit announced the architecture prize for the first time in 1991, it was still called the “Eternit competition for architecture students and young architects”. Since 1997 it has been entitled "Egon Eiermann Prize", named after Egon Eiermann (1904–1970), one of the most important German architects of post-war modernism .

meaning

Egon Eiermann and Eternit use fiber cement as a material for the rear-ventilated curtain wall and the roof . For Eiermann it was the right material for modern architecture. Among other things, the parapet panels in the high-rise building " Langer Eugen " in Bonn (1965–1969), the corrugated facade cladding of the famous handkerchief weaving mill in Blumberg (1949–1951) and the ingeniously stepped corrugated sheet roof on his own residential and studio building in Baden-Baden ( 1959–1962) are made with fiber cement. For Eternit, the name Egon Eiermann is both a challenge and an obligation.

Attendees

Architecture students who study at a German university and have their place of residence in Germany can take part in the Egon Eiermann Prize . Graduates whose diploma, bachelor's or master's degree in architecture was not more than two years ago and who are resident in Germany can also take part.

Prices

The total prize money is 5,000 euros. There are usually several awards given. For the award-winning work supervised by a chair, the sponsor provides the chair with an additional amount of 1,000 euros for excursions. In addition, the award-winning works are exhibited and published in a publication.
