Andreas Fuhrimann Gabrielle Hächler (abbreviated AFGH) is a Swiss architecture firm founded in Zurich in 1996 by the architects Andreas Fuhrimann and Gabrielle Hächler .

Career of the architects

Gabrielle Hächler (born September 20, 1958 in Lenzburg ) studied art history at the University of Zurich and architecture at the ETH Zurich , where she obtained an architecture diploma under Mario Campi in 1988 . She opened an architecture office and was an assistant at the chair for construction and design at ETH Zurich for four years.

Andreas Fuhrimann (born January 31, 1956 in Zurich) studied physics and architecture at the ETH Zurich and graduated in 1985 with a diploma in architecture under Dolf Schnebli . He then worked for a year as a design and planning architect in the architectural office of Ueli Marbach, Arthur Rüegg and, in 1988, a lecturer at the Zurich School of Applied Arts . From 1987 he worked with Christian Karrer, with whom he ran an architecture office from 1989 to 1995.

Fuhrimann and Hächler have been working together since 1995. They taught as visiting professors from 2009 to 2011 at the ETH Zurich and as professors from 2011 to 2014 at the University of the Arts Berlin and in 2017 as visiting professors at the Portoacademy (summer academy) at the FAUP in Porto .

architecture

In their work, the architects strive to create architecture that is worth living in and meets human needs. The architecture is characterized by simple, visually sophisticated building materials, spatial complexity and a subtle sculptural design that clearly relates to its surroundings. Raw materials (such as concrete brut) are of central importance. As a comment on today's fixation on perfection, the architects consciously seek non-perfection, impurity and ambiguity. Andreas Fuhrimann Gabrielle Hächler's clients are private as well as the public sector. These include artists (e.g. Pipilotti Rist , Ugo Rondinone , Barbara Müller and Stefan Gritsch ), collectors and gallery owners.
