Egon Keining
Egon Keining (born November 23, 1892 in Soest ; † April 6, 1971 in Mainz ) was a German dermatologist and university professor .
Life
Keining studied human medicine in Marburg and Bonn until he received his doctorate in 1921. He trained as a dermatologist under Alfred Ruete in Marburg, then went to Georg Arndt in Berlin and in 1927 to Paul Mulzer at the Hamburg University Dermatology Clinic , where he learned about the “ atypical myxedema of the skin " habilitated . There he was appointed associate professor as senior physician in 1933 . On May 1, 1933, he joined the NSDAP and in November 1933 signed the confession of the German professors to Adolf Hitler . He also belonged to the Nazi doctors 'association and the Nazi lecturers' association . In 1934, Keining became co-editor of the Dermatologische Wochenschrift . In 1939 he carried out research on the effects of poison gas on the skin. In 1940 he taught on a substitute basis at the University of Rostock for over a year and then returned to Hamburg. In 1944 he was appointed to the dermatological chair at the University of Greifswald as the successor to Wilhelm Richter , who had fallen in the war , and remained there until 1946. From 1944, Keining was still a member of the scientific advisory board of the authorized representative for health care Karl Brandt .
After the end of the Second World War , in 1946 he accepted the call to the newly established Chair of Dermatology at the University of Mainz , where he retired in 1961. In Rhineland-Palatinate, he was a member of the State Health Council.
His research areas were the Keining sign (efflorescence in dermatomyositis with yellowish-hyperkeratotic nail folds) and irritant body therapy.
