Egon Vaupel

Egon Vaupel (born November 15, 1950 in Schlierbach , today part of Bad Endbach , Central Hesse ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and was the mayor of the city of Marburg between 2005 and 2015 .

Life

After completing secondary school, Vaupel completed an apprenticeship as a wholesaler in Dillenburg and worked there as an employee in industry until 1974. From 1975 he worked at various locations for the Hessian financial administration.

In 1997 Vaupel was first elected mayor, then in 2005 with 52.5 percent of the valid votes in the first ballot for mayor of the city of Marburg and took office as the successor to Dietrich Möller on July 1, 2005. In 2011 he was confirmed in office for another six years with 59.3 percent in the first ballot.

However, on October 30, 2014, Vaupel announced that he would resign from his position on November 30, 2015 for health reasons after reaching the age of 65. He had a serious heart attack in October 2013. On November 30, 2015, Vaupel was awarded honorary citizenship of the city of Marburg and the Hessian Order of Merit on ribbon as part of the farewell . His successor Thomas Spies (SPD) took office on December 1, 2015.

In 2012 Egon Vaupel was a member of the 15th Federal Assembly at the suggestion of his party .

Egon Vaupel has been chairman of the football department of Sportfreunde Blau-Gelb Marburg since August 2016.
