Johannes Müller (born July 10, 1880 in Merseburg , † April 19, 1964 in Marburg ) was a German local politician and Lord Mayor of Marburg.

Life

Müller attended the cathedral high school in Merseburg from 1886 to 1899. After graduating from high school, he studied law at the universities of Jena and Halle from 1899 to 1902. During his studies in 1899 he became a member of the Arminia fraternity in the Burgkeller , to which he belonged until 1933. He passed the first state examination in 1902 and the assessor examination in 1907. During this time he worked for the city administration in Merseburg. From there, Müller moved to Forst in the Lausitz in 1907 as a city councilor. He remained in this position until he was appointed mayor of Marburg / Lahn in 1913.

In 1933 he was dismissed from office because of the law to restore the civil service. It was not until 1939 to 1945 that he was able to take up permanent employment at Carl Zeiss Jena . During the brief US occupation in 1945, he was appointed treasurer and head of commercial operations at the Jena city council. From there he returned to Marburg / Lahn in 1946. There he was responsible for the schools, tax administration and commercial operations departments in the city administration until 1948. From 1949 to 1954 he taught local government at the Philipps University of Marburg .
