This year represents the point in time from which the mayors and mayors are fully recorded. The first written mention of Marburg as a city is the year 1222. Until 1248 the administration of the city was the responsibility of the sovereign. The mayor Raustein was named as the first civil mayor in Marburg in 1248. Originally, the city was presided over by the mayor elected by the landgrave with eleven of the richest citizens as lay judges . They were given city administration and jurisdiction.
