The news of Adolf Eichmann's arrest triggers cheers in Israel . The Israeli police officer Avner Werner Less conducts his interrogation , which increasingly leads to conflicts with his wife. She is concerned about the safety of the family and especially the two children they share. She also suffers from poliomyelitis and is not able to cope with the stress that she is facing.
Avner asks Eichmann every day about his political convictions, individual acts and his powers in the Third Reich. Eichmann denies having held a managerial position. He remembers his affairs with, among others, the Jewess Ann Marie Schmidt and the merciless baroness Ingrid van Ihama, in front of whose eyes he was even supposed to shoot a baby. When research into Eichmann's actions reveals that Eichmann had also deported Avner's father to Auschwitz and thus had him murdered, Minister Tormer Avner does not withdraw from the questioning, but only urges him to get Eichmann to confess quickly. An American newspaper also found out about Avner's father and wants an exclusive interview. Avner asks her to give him two more weeks of questioning before the newspaper publishes his father's fate. Avner finally succeeds within two weeks in proving Eichmann's lies. He had claimed that he always only followed Heinrich Himmler's orders and, in the end, only blindly obeyed Adolf Hitler's orders. Avner, however, can produce documents that prove that he knowingly disregarded Himmler's prohibitions in decisive cases and issued orders to commit crimes himself.
Eichmann is tried after seven months of interrogation by Avner and then executed. Avner now has more time to take care of his family, especially since his wife's health has deteriorated so much over the past few months that she had to be hospitalized.

The film is based on the results of examinations during the Eichmann trial and statements made during interrogations before the trial began. Eichmann was filmed in Hungary from November 20, 2006.
The film had its world premiere on September 22, 2007 at the Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival . It was released on DVD in Germany on May 28, 2009.
criticism
The lexicon of international film described Eichmann as a "well-cast television film". He shows “impressively the two protagonists in camera-technically darkened, torturous interrogation situations in which they watch each other; at the same time he goes into some speculative scenes that have not been historically proven and only use Hollywood clichés. "
Film bug
At the beginning of the interrogation Less speaks to Eichmann about his second youngest son Dieter, who is supposed to be named after the SS officer Dieter Wisliceny . In the scene, however, the photo of Dieter is not shown, but of his brother Günther-Eberhardt Wisliceny , also an SS officer.
A map in Avner's office does not at all fit into the time of the Eichmann trial, but rather depicts Europe in the 1990s. It shows, for example, Germany as reunited, the Czech Republic and Slovakia are separate and the Baltic states are listed as independent states.
