A wish comes true (Original title: A Mom For Christmas ) is an American television film from 1990 directed by George T. Miller with Olivia Newton-John in the lead role. The film is based on the book A Mom by Magic by Barbara Dillon and was on NBC erstausgestrahlt on 17 December 1990th A historic house in Wyoming, Ohio was used as the film set .

Eleven year old Jessica Slocum, whose mother died when Jessica was three years old, lives with her father Jim. In the run-up to Christmas, Jessica receives a wish from a wishing well in a department store - she wants a mother for Christmas. Her wish comes true the same evening, when Philomena, an employee of the department store, brings to life a mannequin that Jessica looked at during her visit. She rushes to Jessica and her father and introduces herself to them as Amy Miller. She brings joy and life back to the Slocums. However, as Jessica wished, Amy can only stay until Christmas Eve. But Jessica and her father fight for Amy - and in the end they manage to bring her to life forever.

criticism

The Movie Scene judged the film to be "to be fair, a children's film, a Christmas film with a mix of fun and features of seriousness". However, he was "not particularly funny and also annoying in places". Compared to films like Mannequin  (1987) and Venus makes Affair  (1948) the film is "weak". The performance of Olivia Newton-John as Amy was "trite".

Awards

Juliet Sorci won the 1991 Young Artist Awards for Best Young Actress in a TV Movie, Pilot, or Special .

DVD release

On October 21, 2008, the film was released at Disney Movie Club as an exclusive DVD only for club members to order by e-mail or via the website.
