The farmer Anna Meier leads a busy life with her husband. The children have grown up now, but despite all the efforts, the farm is facing ruin.
During a routine examination, Anna learns the harrowing diagnosis - cancer; she may have a year to live. Without telling her family anything about it, she drives to a Munich clinic. But the descriptions of a fellow sufferer let her flee the hospital headlong.
Once, before it is finally too late, Anna wants to enjoy her life and is staying in a luxury hotel. The porter Karl Ziegler made her childhood dreams come true. In the end it turns out that the diagnosis was made by a patient of the same name.
