The 2003/04 season of the Austrian ice hockey league was the first after its re-establishment and was played with a total of twelve teams. The defending champion was the UEC Mödling , which was unable to defend its championship. EC Kitzbühel from Tyrol became the new league champions .

Basic round

Due to the high number of participating teams, the teams were divided into two divisions, each of which played four times against each other. The best-placed teams in both groups then competed against each other in the semi-finals. In both groups, there was a quite drastic difference in performance, which may have been one of the reasons why the field of participants decreased significantly by the following season.
