Ekkehard Willenberg

Ekkehard Willenberg (* 1943 in Silesia ) is a German surgeon and neurosurgeon .

Life

Ekkehard Willenberg was born in Silesia. In 1945 the family fled to Central Germany at the end of the Second World War . Ekkehard attended elementary and high school in Bitterfeld . In 1961 he passed his Abitur . Before studying medicine , he completed the internship in Brandenburg an der Havel, which was then mandatory in the GDR . From 1962 to 1964 he completed the pre-clinical part of his studies at the University of Bucharest , the clinical part at the University of Rostock from 1964 to 1968. After graduating, he worked for two years as a troop doctor and one year as a ship doctor , before continuing his training in 1971 Specialist in surgery at the Magdeburg Medical Academy began. Willenberg received his doctorate in 1975 and began specializing in neurosurgery, which he completed in 1977 as a specialist in neurosurgery. In 1978 he received his habilitation in neurosurgery at the Medical Academy in Magdeburg and in 1984 he was appointed professor of neurosurgery. He headed the Department of Neurosurgery at the Department of Surgery under Peter Heinrich until 1987 when he fled the GDR.

Ekkehard Willenberg had two children with his wife Maria, a Hungarian . In October 1987 he and his daughter Christiane used medical treatment in West Berlin approved by the authorities of the GDR for an escape from the GDR that had been agreed with the family and had been prepared for a long time . It was not until 1988 that the family was reunited in the Federal Republic of Germany after his wife and son Thorsten Andreas left . He described the experiences of this time in the book Our bread tastes different , published in 1991 . My way from Germany to Germany. to which Hanna-Renate Laurien wrote a preface. She had met Ekkehard Willenberg in connection with the treatment of an employee and developed a personal relationship with the Willenberg family.

The vacant position at Magdeburg University was filled with the appointment of Siegfried Vogel from Berlin , who, however, returned to Charité in 1989 .

Willenberg worked as a surgeon at various clinics in western Germany, but never again at a university.
