Peter Heinrich (surgeon)

Peter Heinrich (born December 26, 1927 in Bunzlau , Lower Silesia ; † November 8, 2012 in Magdeburg ) was a German surgeon and university professor.

Life

Peter Heinrich was born in the province of Lower Silesia as the son of a ceramist and a kindergarten teacher. At the end of the Second World War , the family fled to Nossen in Saxony . Peter Heinrich passed his Abitur there in 1949. He then studied medicine at the University of Leipzig until 1954 . There he was promoted to Dr. med. PhD . From 1955 to 1961 Heinrich worked as an assistant doctor at the Görlitz District Hospital . In 1960 he passed his specialist examination for surgery . Heinrich moved to the University of Rostock in 1962 , where he initially worked as an assistant doctor, and from 1964 as a senior doctor under Walter Schmitt . In 1969 he obtained his PhD B in Rostock . In the same year he was appointed lecturer . He was also appointed head of the Department of Vascular Surgery and Deputy Director for Teaching and Training. In 1974 Peter Heinrich was appointed professor. A year later he followed Werner Lembcke 's call to the chair of surgery at the Medical Academy in Magdeburg . In 1976 he founded the Surgical Society at the Medical Academy Magdeburg . He headed the Clinic for Surgery until his retirement in 1993 and then worked in his own doctor's practice in Magdeburg until 1996 . Hans Lippert was appointed as his successor . Peter Heinrich died in 2012 at the age of 84.

From 1969 Peter Heinrich was temporarily chairman of the vascular surgery working group of the Society for Surgery of the GDR and from 1989 the last chairman of the Society for Surgery of the GDR. He was also made an honorary member of the Hungarian Society for Angiology in 1980 and received the Dr. Gustav Ricker . For several years Heinrich was a member of the advisory board of the Zentralblatt für Chirurgie under the editorship of his former boss Schmitt and Helmut Wolff .
