The necropolis el-Chocha is on an access road to Qurna and close to the roads leading to the mortuary temples of Deir el-Bahari. It consists of two parts: a small hill in the north and a valley in the south. This southern valley lies exactly between the tombs of al-Asasif and Sheikh Abd el-Qurna and divides them. Not far away, to the south of the el-Chocha necropolis, is a mortuary temple of Thutmose III. ( Hut-henket-anch Men-cheper-Re = "The temple (name) chamber of the life of Men-cheper-Re (Thutmose III.")).
Duration
The area is characterized by a particularly high density of graves. Here are the oldest Theban rock tombs . Four decorated graves are from high officials from the late Old Kingdom and the First Intermediate Period . Most of the tombs were laid out in the New Kingdom, especially in the 18th Dynasty and the Ramesside period . There are also many undecorated and unexplored graves, some of them from the Middle Kingdom .
