El Dorado (also Colonia Menonita El Dorado ) is an areal settlement in the Santa Cruz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

El Dorado is the fourth largest town in the municipality of Cabezas in the Cordillera province . The village is located at an altitude of 396  m between the national highway Ruta 9 in the west and five kilometers west of the Río Grande .

El Dorado is located on the southeastern edge of the Bolivian Cordillera Oriental in the area of ​​the subtropical climate and is characterized by a six-month dry season that extends from May to October.

El Dorado is 103 kilometers by road south of Santa Cruz , the capital of the department of the same name.

From Santa Cruz, the paved highway Ruta 9 leads south via Mora via Cabezas , Abapó , Ipitá and Villamontes to Yacuiba on the Bolivian border with Argentina . Directly in Mora, a dirt road branches off in an easterly direction, which after nineteen kilometers reaches the municipality of El Dorado .
