Manuel González Hernández (born March 18, 1965 , in Guantánamo , Cuba ), known under the stage name El Médico de la Salsa or Manolín, el Médico de la Salsa or "Manolín, el Doctor de la Salsa", is a Cuban salsa - and timba musicians and songwriters. Manolín, El Médico de la Salsa, is one of the most controversial and popular salsa musicians in Cuba.

Career

Manuel González Hernández comes from a family of musicians. He studied medicine in Havana until 1992 , but later decided to pursue a musical career. He was influenced by groups such as Irakere and their band leader Chucho Valdés . He started out as a singer in the group NG La Banda and worked as a songwriter for bands such as Bamboleo, NG la Banda and Charanga Habanera . At the end of the 1990s Manolín had his first successes in the Cuban charts. With the song "La Bola" Manolín, el Médico de la Salsa received the prize “El Artista Cubano del 1996”. The album "De Buena Fé" from 1997 was mainly dedicated to the Cubans living in exile in Miami and the text passage " Mami, hay que vivir para ver, los tiempos cambian, tu vas a ver ... ya tengo amigos en Miami " was censored in Cuba. His fourth album "Jaque Mate" (Checkmate) was banned from sale by the Cuban government for two years. After his song "El Puente" (The Bridge) was banned by the cultural authorities in 2001, Manolín emigrated to the USA and now lives in Miami Beach .

Manolín has toured the US and Europe and performed with great salsa artists such as Celia Cruz , Gilberto Santa Rosa , Oscar D'León , Tito Puente , Arturo Sandoval , El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico and others. His band performed at many events, such as La Tropical and El Palacio de la Salsa in Cuba, the University of Brussels , Club “El Barrio” in Berlin , Sabor Latino in Turin , Paladio in Rome, Sala Apolo and Café Mercado in Barcelona , El Cubanito in Zurich and La Coupoule in Paris . His former band members became solo artists like Tomasito Cruz, Angel “Pututi II” Arces, Reinier Guerra, Eduardo “Chaka” Nápoles and Luis Bu. Manolín now lives with his family in Miami , Florida after emigrating from Cuba in 2001. His great musical successes include songs like “Tal como Soy”, “Quien Eres Tú”, “Qué has hecho de Mí”, “Una Aventura Loca”, “Esperanza”, “Dime qué Hago”, “Giro Total”, “ Qué está pasando. Que no Pasa Nada ”,“ Lo que tú no Sabes ”,“ Jugamos al Amor ”and“ La Vida no es Tan Tan ”.
