The Elektro-Material AG (EM), headquartered in Zurich is in the distribution of electrical installation material Swiss specialty wholesale company. It has 9 branches across Switzerland and employs around 700 people. In 2014, Elektro-Material AG took over Elevite, which acts as the EM lighting competence center for innovative lighting solutions. In 2013 the company generated sales of 500 million Swiss francs. The company has been part of the French Rexel Group since February 1, 2006 .

Field of activity

EM sells electrical installation material, cables and wires , lighting products , communication devices , electrical household appliances, products from the fields of photovoltaics and e-mobility as well as other electrical components. Customers are mainly electrical installation companies, who make up around three quarters of sales, as well as industrial companies , energy supply companies , customers from the facility management sector and other professional customers.

history

The company was founded in 1913 by Kabelwerke Cossonay and initially had branches in Zurich and Basel . In 1917 further branches followed in Bern , Lausanne and Lugano , another in Geneva in 1918 and in Heiden in 2011 .

In 1994 EM was incorporated into Alcatel Schweiz AG . In 2001 EM was incorporated into Nexans Schweiz AG , which was founded by Alcatel in 2000 . At the beginning of 2006, Elektro-Material AG was sold by the French Nexans Group to the French Rexel Group.
