Elena Vallortigara (born September 21, 1991 in Schio ) is an Italian high jumper .

Athletic career

Elena Vallortigara gained her first experience at an international championship at the 2007 World Youth Championships in Ostrava , where she won the shared bronze medal with a height of 1.81 m. Then she won the gold medal at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Belgrade with 1.86 m. In 2008 she qualified for the Junior World Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland , where she was eliminated from the qualification with a skipped 1.65 m. In 2009 she took part in the Junior European Championships in Novi Sad , where she was fourth with 1.87 m. In 2010 she took part again in the Junior World Championships in Moncton and won the bronze medal there with 1.89 m.

Numerous years followed in which she was unable to continue her successful junior career. It was only able to improve again in 2017 and in 2018 it increased continuously over the season and jumped 2.02 m at the Müller Anniversary Games in London , which brought it close to the Italian record of Antonietta Di Martino (2.03 m) . She was considered a medal candidate for the European Championships in Berlin , but surprisingly failed there with 1.86 m in the qualification. Also at the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow the following year , she was eliminated with 1.89 m in qualification and at the World Championships in Doha , 1.89 m was also not enough for a final .

In 2018 Vallortigara became Italian champion in the high jump outdoors and in 2017, 2019 and 2020 in the hall.
