Elfriede Trautner

Elfriede Trautner (born July 22, 1925 in Auberg ; † November 1989 in Linz ) was an Austrian graphic artist .

Live and act

The artist, who grew up with her grandparents in the upper Mühlviertel , moved to Linz in 1946 and worked as a secretary at the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz for 35 years . In her spare time she created a. a. hundreds of technically outstanding drypoint etchings and drawings.

In addition to her job, Trautner learned the basics of printmaking at the Linz School of Applied Arts with Rudolf Hoflehner and Paul Ikrath , perfected her handling of etching with Alfons Ortner and continued her education in 1958, 1959 and 1964 at the International Summer Academy for Fine Arts in Salzburg . Her artistic life's work shows how, as a woman, she perceived and coped with the social structures in Linz in the 1960s and 1970s. She was considered the best graphic artist in Upper Austria. Her own difficult childhood is reflected in her works. The motif of the doll appears again and again in her drawings. Progressive mechanization, the exploitation of nature and the role of women in society were other topics she dealt with.

From 1962, Elfriede Trautner's works were exhibited in various private and public galleries, particularly in Upper Austria, Salzburg and Styria, as part of solo exhibitions and were also repeatedly enriched in group exhibitions and the like. a. in Vienna and Upper Austria (selection):
