Eli Alon

Eli Alon (* 1945 in Tel Aviv ) is an Israeli anesthesiologist who specializes in pain therapy .

Life

Alon graduated from the University of Milan with a state examination in medicine in 1972 . He then worked there for several years as an assistant doctor in anesthesiology before moving to Zurich University Hospital in 1976 . Eli Alon did military service in Israel from 1963 to 1965 and from 1978 to 1979 as a military doctor . From 1990 to 1991 he was a Research Fellow at the University of California in San Francisco . In Zurich he worked as an assistant doctor until 1997 and later as a senior doctor . He then moved to the Lugano Regional Hospital , where he was chief physician and head of department at the Ospedale Civico and Ospedale Italiano until the opening of his practice for pain therapy in 2002 , as well as co-director of the anesthesia nurses' school he founded, Scuola Infermieri Anestesisti del Canton Ticino and President the Association of Ticino anesthesiologists founded by him (Associazione Medici Anestesisti del Cantone Ticino, AMACTI for short). He has been a lecturer at the University of Zurich since 1993 and received a professorship in the summer of 2000 . He is a specialist in anesthesiology and pain therapy and runs a practice for pain therapy in Zurich. He is also a consultant doctor at the University Hospital Zurich and an adjunct professor at the University of Zurich. He was also President of the Swiss Society for the Study of Pain (SGSS), where, among other things, he leads the multidisciplinary pain course every year, and is a board member of the Federation of European Pain Societies (EFIC).

Eli Alon completed his anesthesia training in Zurich. This was followed by stays abroad in the USA, Great Britain and Germany. His research areas were general anesthesia in obstetrics , postoperative pain relief , regional analgesia during childbirth and the treatment of chronic pain .

Innately anesthesiologist , Alon has the time hardly practiced obstetric already in the 1980s epidural imported into Switzerland before, after many years of work as an anesthetist recently turned to the chief physician full of pain. At the University Hospital Zurich he then worked as a consultant for the pain clinic and at the same time in his own practice for pain therapy. Alon was a co-founder, board member and president of the European Society of Obstetric Anesthesiology. He is professor of anesthesiology at the University of Zurich.

As part of the continuing education, Alon has been leading an 80-hour SGSS course in German for years. The course takes place annually in Zurich and ends with the award of a diploma in pain therapy.

For years Alon has been committed to ensuring that chronic pain is recognized not just as a symptom , but as a disease in its own right. Alons and the SGSS aim for chronic pain to be recognized as an independent disease in Switzerland.

Alon is the author of 10 books and proceedings, 58 original articles, 29 review articles and 45 book chapters. He is editor of the journal Der pain , editor-in-chief of the journal Dolor and former editor-in-chief of the journal pain / pain / douleur , editor of the journals European Journal of Pain , Obstetric Anesthesia Digest , Pain Clinic , Acta Anesthesilologica Helvetica and International Monitor of Regional Anesthesia .
