Life

Krafft was a member of one of the most influential families in the revival movement . He was a son of the Marburg theology professor Johann Wilhelm Krafft (1696–1767), a brother of the Frankfurt theologian Justus Christoph Krafft (1732–1795) and the professor of law at the University of Duisburg Johann Wilhelm Friedrich Krafft (1742–1809). He was married to Johanna Ulricke Leidenfrost (1752-1819), a daughter of Johann Gottlob Leidenfrost . Sons were the theologians Christian Krafft (1784–1845) and Johann Gottlob Krafft (1789–1830). Her daughter Henriette († 1855) was married to the Westphalian superintendent Franz Friedrich Graeber . The couple raised their children in a pietistic spirit. Elijah's untimely death caused the family to suffer during the difficult war .

Like his brother Justus Christoph, Elias Christoph Krafft was a member of the Masonic lodge Zum krönten Löwen in Marburg. Like Johann Heinrich Jung-Stilling or Matthias Claudius , they belong to the group of people of the 18th century who tried to combine the ideas of Pietism and Freemasonry.
