Elias Nassar

Elias Nassar (born October 25, 1960 in Sarba , Lebanon ) is a Lebanese clergyman and Maronite Bishop emeritus of Sidon .

Life

Elias Nassar was ordained priest for the Sidon Eparchy on August 18, 1990 . The Synod of the Maronite Church elected him Bishop of Sidon on September 24, 2005. Confirmation by the Holy See took place on December 28, 2005. Maronite Patriarch of Antioch , Nasrallah Pierre Cardinal Sfeir , donated him episcopal ordination on February 16 of the following year . Co-consecrators were Auxiliary Bishop Roland Aboujaoudé and his predecessor Tanios El Khoury .

Bishop Elias Nassar has been President of the Episcopal Commission for Missionary Cooperation among the Churches since 2009. As a participant in the Synod of Bishops for the Middle East in October 2010, he urged the dialogue with Islam to be intensified. He praised the mutual enrichment of Christianity and Islam and underlined that coexistence between Christians and Muslims had been guaranteed for fourteen hundred years.

Pope Francis accepted his resignation as Bishop of Sidon on January 30, 2017.
