Eliot Quartet

The Eliot Quartet is an international string quartet founded in 2014 .

Naming

The quartet is named after the poet T.S. Eliot , who was inspired by the string quartets of Ludwig van Beethoven for his work Four Quartets , published in 1943 .

The members of the quartet studied at various music academies, including the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow , the University of Music and Theater in Leipzig and the Vancouver Academy of Music . Before the Eliot Quartet was founded, some of the musicians worked as solo artists or as part of a chamber music ensemble.

The Eliot Quartet is taught at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts with Tim Vogel and in the master class of Günter Pichler , the founder of the Alban Berg Quartet at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofia in Madrid . The quartet also receives artistic support from the Mandelring Quartet , Valentin Erben , Alfred Brendel and Hubert Buchberger .

In autumn 2014 the musicians of the Eliot Quartet won the competition of the Polytechnische Gesellschaft Frankfurt am Main . In 2016 the ensemble won 3rd prize in the string quartet category at the Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy University Competition and 2nd prize at the International String Quartet Competition of the Irene Steels-Wilsing Foundation in Berlin. The following year the string quartet was awarded the Academy Prize for the Promotion of Young Talent from the Academy of Sciences in Mainz . In 2018 the Eliot Quartet received 2nd prize at the Mozart Competition in Salzburg and 2nd prize at the Melbourne International Music Competition, won the German Music Competition prize with 3 special prizes and 1st prize with a special prize for the best interpretation of a work by K. Szymanowski at the Karol Szymanowski Competition.

Since 2017, the string quartet has received a grant from the Villa Musica Rhineland-Palatinate Foundation . In addition to numerous concerts in Germany, the musicians also performed in Austria , Belgium , Spain and Japan . In 2019, the Eliot Quartet will be the first quartet in residence to organize its own concert series in the Holzhausenschlösschen in Frankfurt am Main .
