Elisabeth Alida Haanen (born August 7, 1809 in Utrecht , † June 8, 1845 in Amsterdam ) was a Dutch genre painter .

Life

Elisabeth Alida Haanen was the daughter of the art dealer , restorer and genre painter Casparis Haanen (1778–1849) and Isabella Johanna Sangster (1777–1846). She grew up as the second child and the eldest daughter in the family of four girls and two boys. Her siblings, who also went down in art history, were the flower and still life painter Adriana Johanna Haanen , the landscape painter George Gillis Haanen and the landscape painter Remigius Adrianus Haanen .

On April 20, 1837, she married the painter Petrus Kiers (1807–1875) in Utrecht . From the beginning of the 1830s the family lived in Amsterdam . Her brother George Gillis Haanen was her teacher. Elisabeth Alida Haanen had two children, a son, the landscape painter George Lourens Kiers (1838–1916), and a daughter, the flower and still life painter Catharina Isabella Kiers (1839–1930).

Haanen painted genre pieces, mostly in the style of the masters of the seventeenth century, such as Gerard Dou and Gabriël Metsu . Her paintings were shown at exhibitions in Amsterdam and The Hague between 1832 and 1844 . In 1838 she was made an honorary member of the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam. The auction catalog of the late Dr. Jan Bleuland in 1839 shows that Haanen had found a patron in him. She died in Amsterdam on June 8, 1845.

Some of her paintings are in the Teylers Museum , the Amsterdam Museum , the Rijksmuseum and the Instituut Collectie Nederland .
