George Gillis Haanen

George Gillis Haanen (born August 23, 1807 in Utrecht , † July 17, 1879 in Bilzen ) was a Dutch landscape , portrait and genre painter .

Life

George Gillis Haanen was the son of the art dealer , restorer and genre painter Casparis Haanen (1778–1849) and Isabella Johanna Sangster (1777–1846). He was one of six children in the family. His siblings, who also went down in art history, were the flower and still life painter Adriana Johanna Haanen , the landscape painter Remigius Adrianus Haanen and the genre painter Elisabeth Alida Haanen . His teacher was his father Casparis Haanen , while he was the teacher of his sister Elisabeth Alida Haanen . In 1831 he became a member of the Arti Sacrum in Rotterdam and in 1835 of the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten . In 1842 he stayed in Mainz and Frankfurt am Main . He was married to a German. His painting "Een Wappend Roover" is painted in the style of Rembrandt . His main pictures are "The Evening School" and "A Farmhouse". The date of his death is sometimes mentioned differently in the literature.
