Elisabeth Freismuth

Elisabeth Freismuth (born December 14, 1955 in Vienna ) is an Austrian lawyer . From October 2014 to September 2018 she was rector of the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz .

Life

Elisabeth Freismuth studied history , art history and law at the University of Vienna , completing her law degree with a doctorate . After a year in court , she was an assistant at the Institute for Austrian and European Legal History at the University of Vienna. From 1985 she was Deputy Director of the Rectorate at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna , from 1990 Director of the Rectorate and from 1998 Director of what is now the university . From 2008 to 2014 she was section head in the Federal Ministry of Science and Research .

On April 9, 2014, it was the University Council elected for a four year term of the Rector of the University of Music and Dramatic Arts Graz. She took over the office on October 1, 2014 from the executive vice rector Robert Höldrich, who headed the university on an interim basis from 2013. During Elisabeth Freismuth's term of office, the 200th anniversary of the Graz University of Art, which was founded in 1816 as the singing school of the Musikverein für Steiermark, fell. Among other things, Freismuth, as rector, took this as an opportunity to initiate the reappraisal of the NS history of the house.

Elisabeth Freismuth taught at the Max Reinhardt Seminar , among other things , is president of the Friends of the Vienna Film Academy , a member of the advisory board of the Arnold Schönberg Center and the scientific advisory board of the University of Siegen, and a jury member for the International Emmy Awards .
