Jens Howe

Jens Howe (born February 17, 1961 in Oschatz ) is a former German foil fencer who started for the ASK Vorwärts Potsdam during his active time . He took part in the 1988 Olympic Games for the German Democratic Republic .

Career

At the age of 19 he was able to win his first GDR champion title at the GDR fencing championships in 1980 . Together with his teammates from ASK Vorwärts Potsdam , he won the team competition in foil fencing. At the GDR fencing championships in 1982 he was able to win an individual medal for the first time. In foil fencing, he took third place behind Frank Teichmann and Klaus Kotzmann .

In the following year he was allowed to take part in the World Fencing Championships 1983 in Vienna and together with Hartmuth Behrens , Adrian Germanus and Klaus Kotzmann won the silver medal behind the Federal Republic of Germany and ahead of Cuba . At the GDR championships in 1984 he won the bronze medal again in the individual foil. He also took part in the 1986 World Fencing Championships in Sofia , where he won the bronze medal behind Italy and the Federal Republic of Germany together with Aris Enkelmann , Adrian Germanus, Udo Wagner and Ingo Weißenborn .

Two years later he was allowed to take part in the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul . In the individual foil competition he reached the quarter-finals and was eliminated there against the German citizen Ulrich Schreck . With the team he just missed a medal with fourth place.
