Elisabeth (Elise) Jensen (born January 1, 1877 in Uelzen ; † May 28, 1924 in Bremerhaven ) was a member of the Bremen Parliament ( SPD ).

biography

Jensen was the daughter of a worker. She attended elementary school. She had been the wife of a carpenter from Kiel, Heinrich Jensen (* 1872), and worked as a housewife since 1899. Both had four children. She lived in Hamburg until 1899 , then in Kiel until 1911 and in Bremerhaven from 1911 , since her husband worked as a union employee and first party secretary in Bremerhaven and Bremen .

politics

Jensen became a member of the SPD before 1907. She took on various functions in the party and in the Bremen women's movement . Her husband was a city ​​councilor in Bremerhaven from 1914 to 1933 and head of the city council from 1919 to 1925. She developed an independent position in the SPD and stood out for her combative and knowledgeable speeches.

After the First World War, Jensen was a member of the Bremen National Assembly in 1919/1920 ; on the list of the MSPD it took second place in Bremerhaven. From 1920 to 1924 - until her untimely death - she was a member of the Bremen citizenship . She worked in the deputation for the prison system. In 1920 she ran unsuccessfully for the Reichstag in constituency 17 (East Hanover). Social and women's issues were the main focus of her political work: prohibition of child labor, equality between men and women, quotation for mandates, housekeeping school, housing supply.
