Hartmut Bickelmann (born January 13, 1948 in Ottweiler ) is a German historian and archivist.

Life

Bickelmann is the son of a teacher and has lived in the Ruhr area since he was 7 years old . In 1966 he passed the Abitur in Gelsenkirchen-Buer at the Max-Planck-Gymnasium . He studied history, German and political science in Heidelberg, Tübingen and Hamburg. He received his doctorate in 1978 at the University of Hamburg (Department of History) with a thesis on the subject of German overseas emigration during the Weimar period . From 1984 to 1991 he was a scientific archivist at the archive of the Hanseatic City of Lübeck for seven years . From September 1, 1991 until his retirement on April 1, 2013, he was archive manager at the City of Bremerhaven. Bickelmann was the editor of several series and a regional history magazine. He wrote a large number of publications - up to 2013 alone, around 60 of his own published works on the city of Bremerhaven. He was followed as city archivist in Bremerhaven by Julia Kahleyß, previously a research assistant at the Institute for Saxon History and Folklore . He lives in Lübeck.

  • 2013: Hermann Allmers Prize in the category “For urban historical research in Bremerhaven” for research into the recent history of the city of Bremerhaven and the publication of the yearbooks of the “ Men from the Morning Star ” from 1997 to 2012
