Elisabeth Raether (* 1979 in Heidelberg ) is a German author and journalist .

Life

Elisabeth Raether studied German and political science in Berlin and Paris. From 2005 to 2007 she worked in the editing department at Rowohlt Verlag and as a journalist for various daily newspapers in Hamburg and Berlin. She has worked for Zeit magazine since 2010 , where she developed the weekly market recipe column, among other things , and has been an editor in the politics section of Die Zeit since 2016 .

Act

In 2008 Raether and Jana Hensel published the volume Neue Deutsche Mädchen , in which the two authors describe their experiences as women of the 30-year-old generation and their memories as children in both German states. In the book, they describe the feminism of the 70s - for which Alice Schwarzer and the magazine Emma stand - as outmoded and counter this with their own, strongly autobiographical stories of role models and sexuality, family and work from the perspective of young women. The book, together with the books We Alpha Girls by Meredith Haaf , Susanne Klingner , Barbara Streidl and Feuchtgebiete by the presenter Charlotte Roche , triggered a discussion about a “new feminism” in the feature sections of the major German-language newspapers. In the course of the debate, Alice Schwarzer accused the two authors of “wellness feminism” in her acceptance speech at the awarding of the Ludwig Börne Prize , to which they responded with a text in the Süddeutsche Zeitung .

In August 2015, the magazine published an interview with the American author Rebecca Solnit , including her latest book When Men Explain the World to Me.
