Elisabeth of Belgium
Crown Princess Elisabeth Thérèse Marie Hélène of Belgium, Duchess of Brabant (born October 25, 2001 in Anderlecht ) is the eldest child of the Belgian King Philippe . She is number one in the Belgian line of succession , ahead of her three younger siblings.
Life
The princess was born on October 25, 2001 as the first child of the Belgian royal couple Philippe and Mathilde in Anderlecht and was baptized on December 9, 2001 in the castle church of Ciergnon . She is named Elisabeth after her great-great-grandmother Queen Elisabeth of Belgium . Her godparents are her cousin Archduke Amadeo of Austria-Este, Prince of Belgium, and her aunt Countess Hélène d'Udekem d'Acoz. She has two younger brothers, Prince Gabriel (* 2003) and Prince Emmanuel (* 2005) and a younger sister, Princess Eléonore (* 2008).

The princess was initially a student at the Dutch- speaking Sint-Jan Berchmanscollege in Brussels. In August 2018 she moved to the renowned United World College of the Atlantic in Wales to complete an international school leaving certificate. In addition to the three Belgian national languages Dutch, French and German, the princess also speaks English.
Official duties
As is usual with monarchies, Princess Elisabeth took on official duties as a child. One of her first appointments in 2011 was the opening of the children's clinic named after her at the Ghent University Hospital.
Title and salutation
Her current title is: Her Royal Highness , the Duchess of Brabant .
Even before she was born, the Belgian succession to the throne had been changed to a primogeniture equal to men and women . It was therefore expected that Elisabeth would be appointed the first Countess of Hainaut (Hainaut) in her own right (the oldest sons of the Belgian Crown Prince entitled to inheritance were traditionally referred to as Counts of Hainaut). Instead, this title was no longer awarded. After her father's accession to the throne, she became the first Duchess of Brabant in her own right.
Honors
In 2007 a polar station in Antarctica was named after her ( Princess Elisabeth Station ). In 2011 the new children's hospital at Ghent University Hospital was named after her. It was named "Princess Elisabeth Children's Hospital". She is also the bearer of the Grand Cross of the Order of Leopold .
