Mathilde Marie-Christine Ghislaine d'Udekem d'Acoz (born January 20, 1973 in Uccle / Ukkel ) is Queen of the Belgians and married to the Belgian King Philippe .

The aristocrat from Belgian nobility was born as the daughter of the then Jonkheer and later Count Patrick d'Udekem d'Acoz (born April 28, 1936 - September 25, 2008) and Countess Anna Maria Komorowska (born September 24, 1946). Patrick d'Udekem d'Acoz is the son of Baron Charles d'Udekem d'Acoz (1885–1968) and Suzanne van Outryve d'Ydewalle (1898–1983). On the occasion of the marriage of his daughter to the Crown Prince, he (and his children) were raised to the hereditary count. The mother, Anna b. Countess Komorowska, is the daughter of Count Leon Michał Komorowski (* August 14, 1907 - September 13, 1992) and Princess Zofia Sapieha -Kodeńska (* October 11, 1919 - August 14, 1997). The Komorowski are an old Polish noble family, including Count Tadeusz Komorowski , leader of the Warsaw Uprising and Prime Minister of the Polish government in exile from 1947 to 1949 , as well as the former Polish President Bronisław Komorowski .

Mathilde has four younger siblings: Marie-Alix (* 1974; died on August 14, 1997, together with her maternal grandmother, Sophia Komorowska née Sapieha, in a car accident in Herstal ), Elisabeth (* 1977; married to Margrave Alfonso Pallavicini ), Hélène (* 1979) and Charles-Henri (* 1985). During her psychology studies, Mathilde met her future husband, Crown Prince Philippe of the Belgians, at a tennis game. For the next three years, the relationship was kept so well secret from the public that the engagement, announced in 1999, was an arranged marriage.

She is fluent in English , French , Italian and Dutch . She loves music (plays the piano herself), literature and sports.

The queen is particularly committed to children and has taken on the patronage of various projects. In 2000 the “Princess Mathilde Fund” was founded, which selects projects with the aim of supporting socially disadvantaged people and the weak.

Queen Mathilde is the godmother of Princess Alexia of Orange-Nassau and Princess Isabella of Denmark .
