Elke Dopp , née Elke Kitzig (born August 17, 1965 in Bad Düben ) is a German agricultural and environmental scientist. She is professor for hygiene and environmental medicine at the University of Duisburg-Essen . Her research focus is the investigation of the effects of environmental pollutants on humans.

Life

Elke Dopp studied agricultural and environmental sciences at the University of Rostock from 1985 to 1990 , where she did her doctorate and habilitation . She received her teaching license ( venia legendi ) in 2002 for the subject of environmental toxicology from the University of Rostock. The rehabilitation at the University of Duisburg-Essen took place in 2005. There she received the license to teach hygiene and environmental medicine .

Education

Growing up in the German Democratic Republic , she completed her school career at the Polytechnic Oberschule and the Extended Oberschule in Groß Gievitz (1972–1973) and Altentreptow (1973–1984). She passed her Abitur at the Ernst Schneller Oberschule Altentreptow.

Research and Teaching

Elke Dopp completed her habilitation in 2001 on the topic of characterization of cytogenetic effects in mammalian cells in the course of the multi-step process of carcinogenesis after exposure to environmental pollutants . Her research focus is on the investigation of cellular changes, in particular the DNA- damaging potential of environmental pollutants (inhalable particles and fibers (e.g. nanoparticles , asbestos fibers ), metal (loid) organic compounds (e.g. arsenic compounds), trace substances in water (e.g. drug residues).

She is actively involved in various committee work (2001–2012: MAK Commission for the determination of workplace-related limit values for dusts, 2005–2008: WHO expert committee for the assessment of the carcinogenicity of chrysotile asbestos and substitutes, 2009–2010: Expert group of the Federal Environment Agency for the toxicological evaluation of Arsenic in drinking water). She has published her own books, magazines and a large number of publications in international journals.

Dopp is visiting professor at Amity University in Lucknow ( India ).
