Elke Herrmann (born December 13, 1942 in Völklingen ; † February 26, 2009 in Saarbrücken ) was a German television announcer, journalist, radio and television presenter and television editor.

Announcement and moderation on radio and television

Although she wanted to start a career as an actress, in 1962 she accepted a position as a spokesperson for Saarland Broadcasting Corporation (SR). At first she worked there in the areas of television play and women's radio. This was followed by the first moderation on the Europawelle Saar for the program Young People Today . This broadcast was a pilot object on radio with the so-called call-in format , in which listeners in the current broadcast could speak up. She also hosted the program Urlaub mit Musik . From 1964 she first appeared on television as an announcer, but without giving up her work on the radio. Then she worked in the evening magazine Between Today and Tomorrow .

Work as an editor

In 1970 she was awarded the Kurt Magnus Prize for her work . In the Current Service Department , she showed her ability and steadfastness. She worked on regional television for the program Im Dreieck , where she also showed reports that she had edited herself. With the experience she gained, she was able to moderate the current report from 1975 onwards. A year later she got a permanent job. In 1978 she became a senior editor in the Radio Politics department.

She achieved the big step of nationwide fame from 1984 when she became the presenter of the ARD's Tagesthemen . In 1986 she became deputy head of the department for politics and current affairs in SR. At the beginning of 1991 she hosted regular ARD specials on the Second Gulf War . In 1991 she only worked for television and took over the management of the Politics and Current Affairs department. At the same time she was appointed editor-in-chief of television at SR, with which she also appeared as a commentator. From 2000 she also worked as the deputy program director. In 2002 she ended her career with the SR.

She died on February 26, 2009 as a result of a serious illness that she believed to have overcome in 2002. Since she felt very connected to the sea, it was her wish to be buried in the sea.
