Elke König (born January 28, 1954 ) has been the head of the European resolution authority for ailing banks (SRB) of the European Banking Union in Brussels since 2014 .

Life

Elke König was born in the Rhineland near Cologne . 1972 she studied until 1976. Business Administration at the University of Cologne , where she also 1976-1980 a PhD study to Dr. rer. pole. connected. After completing her studies, she worked for KPMG Deutsche Treuhandgesellschaft in Cologne. There she received power of attorney in 1986 and rose to director and partner in 1988.

In 1990, König moved to Munich Re . Until 2002, she was a member of the board of directors in charge of accounting and controlling . From 2002 to 2009, König was on the CFO of Hannover Rückversicherung AG and E + S Rückversicherung AG in Hanover , from 2002 to 2010 also a member of the advisory board of Hannover Finanz GmbH and from 2006 chairman of this advisory board, as well as a member of the supervisory board of Deutsche Hypothekenbank . In 2010 Elke König went to the London- based International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) for one year .

In January 2012, König succeeded Jochen Sanio as President of the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) in Bonn. The official handover took place on January 24, 2012 in Frankfurt am Main . Her successor there was Felix Hufeld in 2015 . In December 2014 she was appointed the first female executive director of the newly established Single Resolution Authority (SRB) of the Single European Bank Resolution Mechanism in Brussels.
