Elke Seimetz

Elke Seimetz (born July 6, 1961 in Mayen in the Eifel ) is a German painter , graphic artist , modern book illustrator and art teacher . Her work includes figurative and abstract forms of landscape painting, still life, architecture, portraits and experimental painting. For her motifs she prefers large-format pictures, which she realizes according to the classic tradition in oil on canvas or in mixed techniques and acrylic.

Live and act

Elke Seimetz is the first-born daughter of the painter Paul Seimetz and his wife Margret, née Schäfer. She has two sisters and one brother. The family history lists several artists in a row: their father Paul Seimetz as a painter, graphic artist and heraldist, the landscape painter Albert Seimetz (grandfather) and the Luxembourg portrait and landscape painter Frantz Seimetz (great-great-uncle).

Elke Seimetz was interested in painting as a child. As a child and schoolgirl, she was “inspired by the scent of colors”, she remembers of the atmosphere at home. At the age of 18 she began her artistic training at the "Art School for Painting and Graphics" in Mannheim . She became a master student of Karl Rödel , the founding president of the academy at the time. In addition, she trained as a retail saleswoman . Parallel to her training, she worked as a freelance artist. She also exhibited pictures by contemporary colleagues in her own studio gallery. In 2005 Elke Seimetz began studying to be a teacher . She took the subjects of art, music and work studies. In 2009 she accepted a teaching position at the Gerhart Hauptmann School in Griesheim . Since then she has looked after all relevant school age groups as an art teacher.

Elke Seimentz has been cultivating dialogue with contemporary artists for years through study trips to European EU countries. Her first dialogue with America began through the US Museum of European Art in New York State. Her artist friends include u. a. the South American surrealist Luiz Olinto and his colleague Nancy Netto Safatle (Brazil); both are active on the continent with large-format public commissioned paintings and art in architecture. On a European study trip, the Brazilians were guests of Elke Seimetz in her gallery studio.

Works in collections and museums

Elke Seimetz's oeuvre is shaped by a variety of artistic forms of expression. A specialty is the illustration of literary and historical texts. This includes a China cycle with 20 main images. So far there are over 400 paintings, graphics and mixed media in private collections and public collections in Germany and abroad. These include public buildings in the following cities: St. Leon-Rot, Nussloch (Baden-Württemberg), Reilingen , Baden-Württembergische Landesbank in Karlsruhe / Stuttgart, Museum Europäische Kunst NRW, Rittersaal-Galerie von Schloss Nörvenich , European Culture Foundation ( EKS) Germany, The Museum of European Art (Meaus), Clarence NY USA.
